Dilwara
Jain Temple (3 kms): The temples here built between the 11th and 13th
centuries are famous for their rich intricate carvings in marble. Vimal
Vasahi is the oldest of these Jain temples. Built in 1031 A.D. in the
village of Dilwara by Vimal Shah, the minister of Bhim Deva, the first
Solanki ruler of Gujarat, it is a perfect example of Gurjar-Pratitar temple
architecture, comprising a central shrine, a room with a transept, a large
colonnaded area and on ambulatory lined by 52 small shrines each housing a
statue. The other Jain temple was built 200 years later in 1231 AD by two
brothers Vastupal and Tejpal who belonged to the Porwal Jain community and
were ministers of Raja Virdhavala, a ruler of Gujarat. The temple is
dedicated to Neminath, the twenty second Jain Tirthankara. The door-casings,
friezes, architraves, pillars, the extremely fine workmanship.
Adhar Devi Temple (2 km): This is a beautiful temple chiselled out of a
huge rock, formed by a natural cleft. It is also known as the Arbuda Devi
Temple. A climb of 360 steps up the hill, leads to the place where homage to
the Goddess can be paid. It is believed that the image of the Goddess was
originally hanging in mid air, hence the name Adhar Devi.
Gaumukh
Temple (Vashistha's Ashram): Many sages and seers had their retreat on
Mt. Abu, the most famous being sage Vashistha. To regenerate the human race,
he performed a `yagna' or magic fire from which were corn the Agnikula clans
of Chauhans, Solankis, Parmars and Pratihars. A natural spring that flows
out through a sculpted cow's head, gives the shrine its name.
Nearby
is the marble image of Nandi-the bull which was rescued by the mighty
serpent `Arbuda' Carved out of a rock, the hill temple of Arbuda lies
against a picturesque back drop. It is accessible by car or jeep up to 3
kms. From where 750 steps have to be covered on foot.
Sunset
Point: It is a beautiful site, which provides a lovely view of the
setting sun. South west of Nakki Lake, one can see the sun gradually drown
itself in the azure sky between two mountain peaks. Steps lead up to a high
terrace, which offers an awe-inspiring view of the setting sun.
Honeymoon
Point: Until recently known as the Anadra point, this place provides a
pleasant view of the verdant valley and plains. It looks especially
beautiful at sunset hour, when it acquires an aura of serenity.
Shri
Raghunathji Temple: Situated near Nakki Lake the temple is dedicated to
Shri Raghunathji or Lord Rama and has a beautiful image of the deity that
was placed here in 14th century AD by Shri Ramanandji, the famous Hindu
preacher.
Gardens and Parks: Abu is dotted with beautiful
gardens blooming in a riot of color. Some are Ashok Vatika, Gandhi Park,
Municipal Park, Shaitan Singh Park and Terrace Garden.

Shanti Bhawan: Also known as the Universal Peace Hall, it is the World
Spiritual University of the Brahma Kumaris. It has a big hall without any
pillar, which can accommodate upto 3,500 People.
Peace Park: On
the way to Gurushikhar, this park is considered to be among the most
beautiful Gardens in the country, developed by Brahma Kumaris.
Museum and art Gellery: It is located Raj Bhawan Road, opposite Post
Office.

EXCURSIONS
Toad
Rock (1.2 km): It is so called because of its likeness to a gigantic
toad overlooking the Nakki Lake, about to leap into the water.
Trevor's
Tank (3 km): Trevor's Tank named after a British engineer is a
birdwatchers' pradise. The thickly wooded hills around it are alive with
pheasants, peacocks and partridges.
Achalgarh (10 km): This
fort built by Rana Kumbha in the 14th century is 10 km. our of Abu, along a
motorable road upto Achalgarh. Some beautiful temples enclosed in this fort
are Achaleswar Mahadev Temple is the Mandakini Kund and a sculpture of
Parmar Dharavarash. Other temples are of Meena and Chamundi.
Guru Shikhar (15 km) :The highest peak on the mount at an altitude of
1722 meter, it commands. Panoramic view of Abu and the surroundings. besides
a small shaivite shrine 'Shikahar' there is a temple of Dattatreya.
