hills and narrow valleys of the Aravallis. The forests are dry deciduous.
The grassy glades and woodland covers are excellent niches for the prey
species sambar, Chital, nilgai, four horned antelope, wild boar and common
langur, tiger, leopard and their follower's jackal, hyena and jungle cat.
Porcupines, being nocturnal are conspicuous after dark. One can easily count
200 peafowls at Kalighati any day. The ruins of temples of Garh Rajor of
the 10th and 11th centuries remind of the past glories of the area. A castle
on a sharp hilltop of Kankwari stands as sentinel of its mediaeval heritage.
It also provides a top view of flying vultures and eagles. It is on the
regular bus route form Alwar to Jaipur.

Sightseeing
Pandu
Pole: Perhaps the most rewarding excursion one could make from of
Sariska is of Pandu Pol, situated at a distance of 22 kms. It is believed
that Pandu brothers, five heroes of epic mahabharta, once passed through the
Sariska valley while they were relentlessly pursued by the Kauravas. At the
head of the valley, their passage was barred by a huge rock. Bhima, the
strongest of the Pandavas, pulled out a tree from the hillside and struck
the rock, which gave way under his mighty blow. This Place is a beautiful
gorge through which water falls throughout the rainy season and up to
November. Thick ferns and shrubs of various kinds cover this place.

Excursions
Siliserh:
A lakeside retreat, close to Alwar where the women of the zenana would come
to relax, while their consorts indulged in shikar. Only 15 km from Alwar,
Siliserh is a nice spot for a picnic. For a quiet holiday, one can stay at
the picturesque lake palace (now a hotel) on the banks of the lake.
